Centenary Copse

1st Iver Heath Scout Group as part of the group environment badge is going to plant 30 trees (which Steve has sourced free through the Scout website) in Iver Heath fields.

This idea was originally suggested by Mole an assistant leader in our Beaver section as part of the Beaver programme, but as it is national tree planting week at the end of November we decided to incorporate the tree planting with the Scouting centenary as a group event.

Therefore it was decided to try and plant a copse in Iver Heath fields and name it after the centenary. Steve (Mole) put the idea to the Iver Parish Council who in turn put him in touch with the Buckinghamshire Conservation society, Steve and I had a meeting with a member of the society and the idea moved quickly forward.

On Monday 15th October Steve and I attended a meeting of the Iver Parish Council, the Buckinghamshire society and the Friends of Iver Heath fields, they were all very enthusiastic with the idea and gave it a thumbs up and even suggested planting some daffodils in with the trees.  An area in Iver Heath fields was chosen and the name of The Centenary Copse was put forward and accepted.

Steve has found a local carver to make the name plaque, he was more than happy to help out as his son was a scout in 1st Iver Heath many years ago. It was decided at the meeting to leave the positioning of the name plaque and the subsequent opening of the copse until next spring by which time the Trees will have had time to take and the Daffodils will be blooming.

Information on the dates and times of the tree planting and the official opening next spring will be given out by the different section leaders in due course.

Yours in Scouting
